Wool and silk pile of symmetric knots on a silk foundation
Here the predominantly wool pole shows copious silk accents. The off-white field shows birds perching on spiral vinery (islimi). The bone field presents more birds, this time in flight, centralized by an oval off-white sub-medallion enclosing a luxuriant floral vase, and still more birds. The contrast between bone and off-white is clever, but subtle. The sapphire blue pseudo-corners show serrated buds and flowers. The blue actual corners support vases on palmettes and feathers. Beige border with petal palmettes and more birds. Pile “islands” in the flatwoven end finishes.
